According to a 2006 study by the Department of Health and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, around 1 in 10 people aged 65 or above in Hong Kong show symptoms of dementia—
an estimated 70,000 individuals. With the city’s ageing population, this number is expected to rise significantly in the years ahead.
The Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing (JCCPA) is committed to enhancing the quality of life for elderly people living with dementia. The centre provides professional care services,
offers training for healthcare practitioners, and conducts dementia-related research. In addition, it actively promotes public awareness and understanding of dementia through
a range of community initiatives.
In the summer of 2015, the HKDI DESIS Lab collaborated with JCCPA on a design research project. Together, they explored creative approaches, developed educational tools and produced
an infographic to help the public better understand and empathise with the dementia experience in Hong Kong.
